Thanksgiving Card 2023

Author notes on this year's poems

WATCH: Zoe Marie Bel discusses Thanksgiving poem 'Frontier'

This is the second of three videos in which Zoe discusses her Thanksgiving 2023 poetry cards. In the first video, Zoe introduces her Thanksgiving card concept; in the third video, she talks about her poem 'Wet Paint'. See the poems here.

The photo cover for the 2023 card

Here's the photo cover for this year's Thanksgiving card:

This is an example of real life and creativity intersecting. I took this picture in Rancho Palos Verdes (specifically from the lawn of the Wayfarers Chapel) the week before writing 'Frontier'. The tanker crawling through the fog like that became the line, "A tanker trims fog in Palos Verdes." I was delighted to discover that, when printed on the textured 600gsm paper of the Thanksgiving card, the image takes on the wispy look of a watercolor painting.

The Thanksgiving 2023 essay

Referred to in the video above, my essay on the year just passed will shortly be posted to this Journal as a separate piece. I will link to it from here when published.
